Medical Screening and Care
The Health Clinic operated at the community center once a month aims to provide first aid and primary health care to those who are most in need and also can assist in referring clients (and many time also covering costs) for more in-depth medical or in-clinic treatment. LOP involves local doctors and nurses as well as international health volunteers and medical students in visiting our site to provide this care to our beneficiaries.
Other services are also supported. Due to their age and disabilities, many of the beneficiaries of the Soup Kitchen or Health Clinic are also eligible for small government grants, however, most do not have the required paper work or knowledge of the system to obtain these benefits. During the past 6 years the team has also assisted more than 100 people to access these support services which they qualify for. While the amount which they receive is small, approximately about USD $60 per month, for many it is their only source of income and has contributed significantly to their survival.
